Ron Bertram Design - Lois Bertram

AR.00027 Traditional Quilt Makers in New Mexico Survey

Ron Bertram Design by his mother, Lois Bertram. Lois Bertram appears to be quilting in a hoop rather than on a full frame. AR.00027: Traditional Quilt Makers in New Mexico Survey Project. FIELD NOTES: Ron Bertram (Lois's son), age 18 [as of 1985], designed the quilt she is making for him. He designed the patchwork on paper, chose the colors (red, black, + white), even the quilting patterns. He wanted to be sure there were no "flowers" in the quilt. He made the templates for her for the quilting patterns. Ron told his mother he didn't like repeated blocks. He changed his mind after she had the pieces for the whole border cut. He wanted the border to echo the center pinwheel block. He designed a new border + his mother had to re-cut the whole border.
