Collection, MOIFA.AR.00063
This manuscript is currently on loan to the New Mexico History Museum for the exhibition Voices of Counterculture in the Southwest. In 1967-8 the International Folk Art Foundation contracted with Dr. Richard Alpert to collect traditional musical instruments in India. During this trip, Alpert met Neem Karoli Baba, who became his guru, and Alpert emerged from India with a new name, Ram Dass. He also did collect 16 instruments for the museum collection (FA. 1968.25.1-16), and with them he sent a handwritten manuscript describing each instrument and its history.
