Description
Mary Wasson and Granddaughter Examine a Quilt. AR.00027: Traditional Quilt Makers in New Mexico Survey Project. FIELD NOTES: M Wasson + granddaughter

Mary Elizabeth Hanna Wasson used to quilt for Ruby Clear. She quilted Ruby's old redwork quilt. She used to quilt for $12.

Born in Mill Creek, Oklahoma, in 1901, Wasson remembered when the bed would be made with a blanket and 3 or 4 quilts. In the daytime a bedspread would be on top. If there was no bedspread you'd put a sheet over the top to protect the quilts. Also, the sheet came down further over the side of the bed and looked nicer.
