Biography
A Ukrainian-American, Katherine Lawrence learned the art of making pysanky (an egg decorated with traditional designs using a wax-relief technique) from her mother. She refers to her designs as Ukrainian-American because they blend a variety of traditional designs from many regions of the Ukraine; Lawrence also uses a non-traditional tool to apply wax to the eggs, utilizing ink pens rather than the "kistka." She says that most of her designs are copied out of books, but there are many that she learned as a child. [source: Dana Everts 4/21/1988]
